Mr. Raymond Tse Tsz-Ho, Registered Social Worker of the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society contributed an article in HK Economic Times on Family Crisis Support Project which supports families in crisis. He recounted  the resilience and impressive will power of an underprivileged mom of three who was left behind to face financial difficulties after the death of the family breadwinner.  In addition to her recovery through grief,  she was also under tremendous financial pressure and have to receive counselling to overcome emotional challenges. She had bravely underwent cancer treatment in order to see her three children grow up.

Hong Kong Family Welfare Society is one of the two project partners of the Family Crisis Support Project funded by Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation since 2017. It  provides one-stop emergency financial assistance and counselling service for families in a crisis situation, helping them go through difficult times and get back on track, while filling the gaps in community services.

Hong Kong’s wealth gap reaches ‘tipping point’ under Covid as unemployment rises among poor, Oxfam says

The pandemic has worsened Hong Kong’s wealth gap, with the city’s poorest making 47 times less than its richest residents, Oxfam Hong Kong has said. In the pre-Covid era, the highest earners made 34.3 times more.

Record number of people gave to charity globally in 2021

A record number of people donated money to charities or assisted strangers in 2021 after three-year long reduction in 2018, according to the World Giving Index 2022.

At the other end of the spectrum, half of the countries or regions which declined the most in 2021 included Hong Kong, down by 13 percentage points.
