Funded by Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation and operated by Principal Chan Free Tutorial World, Cheng Yu Tung Kwai Chung Learning Centre celebrated its opening on 14 April 2018. The ceremony was officiated by Peter Cheng, Chairman of Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation, and Chan Hung, Founder of Principal Chan Free Tutorial World.

Peter Cheng, Chairman of Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation (CTFCF), says, “Everyone has their own starting line and go through ups and downs. The most important thing is the children’s diligence and gratitude. If you don’t work hard, the efforts of many more dedicated individuals like Principal Chan would be in vain. We truly appreciate Principal Chan for pouring his heart and soul into education, making it free.”

In 2015, CTFCF donated HK$5.4 million in support of the Learning Centre to provide disadvantaged children with free playgroup, pre-school and talent classes. CTFCF recently signed another agreement for 2018-2021 of over HK$7 million to support more children. CTFCF encourages people from all walks of life to become volunteer instructors. Together we build a caring community with a better understanding of needy children. Peter Cheng encourages students to seize every opportunity to learn and put their knowledge to good use by giving back to society as volunteer instructors.

The Learning Centre provides free learning support, including pre-school classes and talent classes on piano, Chinese zither, painting, photography, taekwondo, dance, Chinese calligraphy, etc. to low-income families in Kwai Chung. In addition, there are various extracurricular activities and computer facility to provide children with different learning experiences. Since its establishment, the Learning Centre has brought together more than 100 volunteer instructors to support 1,000-plus low-income students and their families.
