The Past Inspires the Future
As the Chairman of Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation (the Foundation) and an enthusiastic supporter of charities, Mr. Peter Cheng built upon his father’s principles with extraordinary commitment to providing assistance to the underprivileged for a better tomorrow and the long-term development of the future generation.
The family’s philanthropic works trace a long tradition of giving back to society back to 1977. My father has instilled in the family a deep belief in the values of caring for others. The Foundation allows us to serve the community and provide assistance to more people in need
Philanthropic Journey
After almost half a century, our support to the community has evolved from traditional grant-making to support the disproportionate ones or investing in infrastructure to actively devoting resources and even reaching out to partner with NGOs targeting specific audience to collaborate on pilot projects. An example is the Family in Crisis Support Project which addresses the funding gaps on urgently needed but unavailable community services, and nurtures opportunities to create shared value for the community.
We leverage our unique flexibility as a private family foundation to support innovative projects such as the “Sham Tseng Light Housing” social housing project and the Hong Kong Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Centre’s “Robotic Exoskeleton” pilot programme. Over the time, some of these pilot projects after successful trials were subsequently supported from other major not-for-profit organisations with more resources to provide a wider scope of services, and even the government under the social welfare policies, to incorporate regular assistance and service programmes.
I am honoured to make philanthropy my lifelong career and devote more time to it every day. Together with the Executive Committee, we are investing our time and resources humbly to lead the Foundation to create positive impact in Hong Kong, mainland China and beyond. We will ensure Dr. Cheng Yu-Tung’s philanthropic legacy endures and lives on forever

Mr. Cheng dutifully honours the tradition of philanthropy and continues to boost the social capital for vulnerable groups through active grant-making, while fostering innovative solutions to address a wide breadth of pressing unmet social, healthcare and economic needs. The Cheng family will continue to contribute to promoting social sustainability and building inclusive communities.
